D. Smith Blues: More History
Winter 2004-2005
After a little break we have three gigs in January including Black-Eyed
Sally's in Hartford and Chico's Sports Bar in Waterbury.
See our schedule for more information. We
should also be getting a date at the Downtown Cafe in Bristol sometime in
February.
Summer - Fall 2004
We will be playing at the Big E on
Connecticut Day, Wednesday September 22, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. This should
be a good time on a big stage. We also will be playing a new place
in the Torrington area, J&D's Cafe in the Burville section .
Some people may remember this place as Bob's Folly. The date is
October 30 with a 9:00 PM start time.
See our schedule for more information.
Summer 2004
Our new CD, Monkey Time, is now available! We made our
deadline of June 25th! Thanks to all who participated in the
project. Most of the CD was recorded live in the studio to try and
capture the energy of a live performance. There are also a few
original studio cuts as well. An image of the CD will posted on the
web site shortly. If you would like to order the CD through the mail,
please send a check for $12 made out to:
Tom Ethier, at 121 Irving Avenue, Torrington, CT 06790.
We also advanced to the final round of the CT Blues Society's 2004 Blues Challenge, time and place of finals is to be determined. We count ourselves fortunate as outstanding performances that night were turned in by Larry Willey & the Bluestalkers, Anuther Mule and XY Eli. As proof that these are indeed friendly competitions, XY Eli graciously appears as a guest vocalist on a cut on our new Monkey Time CD.
Spring 2004
This past December we
re-tooled the band and have returned to the original lineup as Joe
Ethier has returned to play guitar. We appreciate the contributions of
Drew Blood, Steve Baldino and Shawn Leonard over the last several
years. In addition to the new, old lineup, we are working on new
material for a CD release. We will be trying out some of this
material at our upcoming gigs. Hope to see you all really soon.
Spring 2003
We will be playing an hour long set at the Daffodil
Festival in
Meriden on Sunday April 27 from 1:15 to 2:15 PM. We played this a few
years ago and made some new friends and fans; we're looking forward to doing it
again. We have several dates already this summer at the Landing Zone in Burlington.
Winter 2002-03
We will be playing the Yankee Pedlar in Torrington on Friday February 7th. Our
planned date in November had to be postponed due to a scheduling conflict. Hope to
see some old friends either in Torrington or at the Downtown in Bristol. We are
also
slated to play the Berlin Blues Festival on Sunday June 8.
Fall 2002
We had a good time in our first visit to Rider's Cafe on Friday, September 27.
We have been asked to come back and will post the date in this section as well as
the schedule page of the web site. The room sounded fine and we got to meet some new
friends and see some old ones. We will be playing at the Yankee Pedlar in Torrington
on Friday, November 29 - we haven't played this room in several years and are looking
forward to being back.
Summer 2002
Thanks to all our old and new fans who have seen us lately and wished us well.
We were recently part of the CT Blues Society
Blues Challenge and took part in the finals at the Red Hot & Blue Chili Cook-off at
Martin Park in East Hartford on July 28th. We were not selected to represent CT in
the national challenge and offer our congratulations to the CT winners, The Mike Crandall
Band. They played a fine show and we enjoyed hearing all of our old blues friends at
the challenge. It was a great afternoon of music and food in East Hartford.
